Science, History, Geography, and More

Homeschooling topics like science, history, and geography is debatable in the early years. As I have previously confessed, I tend to find security in checking boxes and feeling like I’ve covered anything my kids would have learned in a traditional school. (This is probably a weakness of mine, so don’t necessarily follow my lead.) I have always been drawn to all-in-one curriculums, which typically include at least simple lessons for all the main subjects for elementary-age kids.

Looking back, I probably pushed more than I needed to on some subjects during those early elementary years. Does Levi remember anything he learned in second-grade science? I doubt it. Yet I do wonder if my boys had an easier time transitioning to the more rigorous courses of the middle and high school years because they’d already built a foundation in each subject. Most seasoned homeschool parents would suggest that if your kids enjoy it, do it. If they don’t, then wait.
